How to Measure an Oversized Twin Bed

Oversized twin beds are commonly used for tall people and in college dormitories.

Not every mattress is created equally. Mattresses come in many varying sizes to accommodate the size, shape and sleeping behavior of the people that use them. A common mattress is called a twin. This mattress is typically 39 inches wide and 75 inches long. Most single adults fit comfortable on this bed. If you are particularly tall, however, you may need an oversized or "extra long" twin bed. You will need to measure this bed to know what sheets will fit on it.

Instructions

1. Pull the oversized twin bed away from the wall, so that you can easily measure the sides of it. If desired, remove the oversized twin bed from the bed frame, and lay it flat on the ground for ease of measurement.

2. Hold the end of the tape measure at the foot of the bed. Ask a helper to pull the tape measure to the head of the mattress. Record this number. This is the length of the bed. Standard oversized twin beds are typically 80 inches long.

3. Hold the end of the tape measure at the edge of the side of the bed. Ask a helper to pull the tape measure to the other edge of the bed. Record this number. This is the width of the bed. Typically, oversized twin beds are 39 inches wide.
