Things You'll Need

  • Mineral spirits
  • Lint-free cloths
  • Furniture polish
  • Fine steel wool
  • Matching paint

      Clean the surface well using mineral spirits and a soft cloth. Let it dry for several minutes before continuing.

      Pour a small amount of furniture polish on the scratched area. Paraffin oil will also work well.

      Rub the scratched area with a fine steel wool, going with the grain. Continue rubbing until the scratch is completely gone. Wipe the wood with a dry cloth to remove any leftover oil or dust.

      Touch up the damaged area with paint that matches the rest of the furniture. Allow it to dry overnight.

      Polish the furniture to give the piece a matching sheen all over.
