How to Reset Oil in a Honda Civic

Many Honda Civic models are equipped with an oil life tracking system that is connected to the onboard computer. This system monitors driving habits and engine performance to determine when an oil change is needed. An oil indicator is displayed on the control panel when service is due. When an oil change is performed by a Honda dealer, they will reset the oil indicator. If you change the oil in your Civic yourself, you can manually reset the oil life monitoring system.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the ignition to the "ON" or "II" position.

    • 2

Press the "Sel/Reset" button until the oil life percentage is displayed on the control panel.

    • 3

Press and hold "Sel/Reset" for about 10 seconds until the oil life display flashes.

    • 4

Press and hold "Sel/Reset" until the oil life resets back to 100 percent. Turn the ignition off.

Tips & Warnings

  • Reset the oil system as soon as possible after an oil change so the Civic can accurately monitor the oil system.
