How to Deal With Snoring
Millions of people deal with snoring every night, which can happen when nasal passages become restricted as the throat muscles relax. Males are more prone to this problem than females. According to MedlinePlus, the sound is caused by tissues at the top of your airway vibrating as they strike each other. It is not just the partner who can't get a good night's rest, but also the snorer. Snoring can be a sign of a sleep disorder called sleep apnea---when you stop breathing for 10 seconds or more---that might be relieved by using a nasal mask or even surgery.
Instructions
-
-
1
Sleep on your stomach or side. Sleeping on your back can cause the airway to become blocked, resulting in you snoring.
-
2
Use a humidifier. If the air is too dry, the tissues in the throat will become dry and easily vibrate, which can cause more snoring.
-
-
3
Keep the bedroom cooler at night, which will make breathing easier to reduce snoring.
-
4
Use nasal strips that pull your nostrils open to help you breathe better---and, as a result, help stop snoring.
-
5
Decongestants might help with sinus drainage problems. Take a decongestant to help if your snoring is caused by sinus drainage.
-
6
Stay away from sedatives and alcohol before bed because they travel to all areas of the body and slow the brain's response, causing the muscles to relax---which leads to snoring.
