How to Troubleshoot a LabelWriter 400

The DYMO LabelWriter 400 produces labels in a full range of colors for use in retail, warehouse and other environments. The label paper you use with the LabelWriter 400 comes on small rolls, which you load on the spool on one side of the device. As the device prints on labels, they exit the other side of the device, where you can tear the individual labels off the strip of paper. If you encounter problems with the device, troubleshoot them first before contacting your DYMO dealer for help.

Instructions

  1. Label Stuck Inside

    • 1

Remove the label paper you were using with the device. If the paper is stuck inside the device, leave it inside.

    • 2

Hold the clearing card that came with the device in the feed area. Make sure the card is firmly touching the feed wheel as you press the "Feed" button.

    • 3

Allow the clearing card to move all the way through the device. Retrieve any labels or paper that comes out of the device with the card.

    • 4

Pull out any remaining labels in the device. Take your time and be gentle to prevent the stuck labels from tearing.

    • 5

Take the device to your DYMO service shop for repairs if you still cannot clear any stuck labels.

"Out of Paper" Error Shows Incorrectly

    • 6

Check the label paper you are using in the device to make sure they are DYMO brand labels. The DYMO label paper will have small black squares on the backside of the paper, unlike other brands.

    • 7

Push both sides of the paper spool wheel together, pinching the paper roll in the middle. This will ensure the paper is lined up correctly inside the device.

    • 8

Unplug the power cord from the device, wait 30 seconds, then plug the power cord back into the device. This will reset the device, clearing the error.
