Halogen bulbs emit a brighter, softer light than other bulbs, according to Solairco.com. They also have the same wattage rating as regular incandescent bulbs. When replacing a halogen bulb or any bulb don't install it with a higher wattage rating than the lamp recommends. Halogen bulbs are more expensive than incandescent bulbs. Instructions

      Turn off the lamp and allow the bulb to cool for at least 10 minutes.

      Put on cloth gloves or use a cloth napkin to grip the bulb. The material should be non-linen.

      Grip the bulb gently but firmly, press down and turn the bulb to remove it from the bulb holder. Some bulbs may be protected in the bulb holder with tempered glass. You either need to press the glass toward the bulb holder to remove it from the clip and lift it out of place, or remove the screws that hold it. Lift out the bulb.

      Insert the new bulb, press down gently and turn, or insert the new bulb in the bulb holder and replace the tempered glass.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fingerprints and oils from your hands can cause the bulb to heat unevenly, causing it to shatter. Never touch a bulb with bare hands.

  • Halogen bulbs get very hot and can easily burn your skin.
