An AVI file is a type of video file known as an audio-video interleave file. For home-entertainment purposes, you may want to use an AVI file to create a DVD. This is a process that can be done simply as long as you have the appropriate programs, such as WinAVI, Leawo DVD Creator and Xilisoft AVI to DVD Converter (see Resources) to convert an AVI file to a DVD format that is burnable (able to be copied).

Instructions

  1. WinAVI

    • 1

Press the menu button on the main screen, and select the "Any to DVD" option. In the submenu, select "Format Convert." You will be prompted by a select-file window to select the AVI file you want to convert to a DVD.

    • 2

Click "Browse" to select the output directory, which is where you want the converted AVI file to be saved.

    • 3

Select the encoder; click to choose the DVD mode, and click "OK" to convert. The file is now ready to burn (copy) to a DVD.

    Leawo DVD Creator

    • 4

Import your AVI file to the main screen either by clicking "Add" on the bottom toolbar or by dragging and dropping the file onto the main screen.

    • 5

Select "Menu" to create a customizable background for your DVD menu.

    • 6

Select the resolution you would like when converting the file. The resolution is determined by the main source on which you will watch the DVD. Use the default setting if you are not sure what the appropriate resolution should be.

    • 7

      Click "Start."

    • 8

Click "OK" button to save the file to the destination of your choice. The file is now stored in your destination and is ready to burn to a DVD.

Click "File" in the toolbar, and then select "Add Video File." From here, you will be prompted to select your file.

    • 10

Add a menu to your DVD by clicking "Edit" on the main screen. This brings up a screen on which you can edit the menu by changing the background and adding background music. Press "OK" to confirm the changes.

    • 11

Click the "Destination" field, and select where you will be saving the file.

    • 12
