Blue jeans have become an American staple in every family's home closet. According to Idea Finder.com, " ...blue jeans were invented in 1873 by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss." These pants, made of cotton threaded together, then dyed indigo and blue, became very popular. Today, there are several different kinds of denim clothing available. Everything from pants, jackets, hat and vests can be made from blue jean material. Sometimes, you can use old denim wear and change it into a different piece of clothing. For instance, it's easy to transform a blue jean jacket into a vest.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut off both arms of the blue jean jacket. Cut as close to the stitching as possible, but don't cut the stitching itself.

    • 2

Pin seam binding around the freshly cut edges of the vest. This will prevent the vest from fraying from wash and wear. Simply open up the binding and slide the jean edges into the pocket on the binding to pin it in place.

    • 3

Sew a stitch on the seam binding. Place the stitch all around the arm hole on the edge of the binding on the blue jean vest. This will hold the binding to the vest. A simple straight stitch will work just fine. Be sure to sew the seam binding on both arm holes.

    • 4

Remove the pins once you are done stitching. Iron or stitch on appliques to the front sides or back of the blue jean vest to add some flare. Try the vest on and pair it with leggings, a skirt or shorts.
