How to Remove a Chrysler Concorde Starter

The starter on a Chrysler Concorde is located next to the transmission, underneath the front of the vehicle. When the key is turned to the “ON” position, the starter receives power from the engine’s battery and cranks the engine. As time passes, the internal wiring inside the starter wears out, causing intermittent and unreliable performance. Replacement starters are available from auto parts stores and Chrysler dealerships.

Things You'll Need:

  • Automotive jack
  • Jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Battery terminal wrench
  • 1/4-inch ratchet
  • 1/4-inch metric socket set
  • Metric box-end wrench set
  • 3/8-inch ratchet
  • 3/8-inch metric socket set

1. Place the Concorde’s gear selector in the “P” position

Place the Concorde’s gear selector in the “P” position. Turn off the engine and set the parking brake. Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal, using the battery terminal wrench.

2. Raise the front of the vehicle

Raise the front of the vehicle, using the automotive jack and support it with jack stands. Chock the rear wheels.

3. Crawl underneath the front of the vehicle and locate the starter

Crawl underneath the front of the vehicle and locate the starter. Remove the nut holding the positive battery cable to the starter, using a 1/4-inch ratchet and a metric socket. Remove the nut holding the ground and control wires to the starter, using a box-end wrench. Remove the positive battery terminal wire, ground wire and control wire from the starter.

4. Remove the two bolts holding the starter

Remove the two bolts holding the starter to the engine block, using a 3/8-inch ratchet and a metric socket. Remove the starter from the engine.
