How to Reset Your Windows Live Address, Links & Password Request
Forgetting personal information happens. It's natural to forget usernames and passwords. Microsoft's Windows Live brand contains a suite of online applications and services such as Hotmail, Messenger and SkyDrive. These services are only available via login using your Windows Live ID and password. Microsoft has developed a procedure for users who have forgotten their Windows Live password. This step-by-step method allows users to reset the password.

Access Windows Live's sign-in page (see Resources).

Verify your username and password. Prior to resetting your password, Microsoft recommends that you verify that your sign-in account is the one that you want to log in with. In the spaces provided, enter in your Windows Live ID and a probable password. Click the "Sign In" button to check if your Live ID and password match. If they do not match, click the blue "Forgot Your Password?" link underneath the Password window.

Begin the password-reset process. In the space provided, enter in your Windows Live ID. In the second space provided, enter in the set of characters that appear on the screen. This is done to prevent programs from accessing your Windows Live account. Press "Continue" at the bottom of the page to continue resetting the password.

Receive your reset password. In the "Reset Your Password" page, view the two options available for password reset. Choose the "Use my location information and secret answer to verify my identity" option to use the question and secret answer you provided during setup. Conversely, you can select the "Send password reset instruction to me in e-mail" option to use the alternate email you provided during setup. After selecting an option, click "Continue" to finalize the password-reset process.

Access Windows Live's sign-in page once again. Enter in your Windows Live ID and password in the spaces provided, and select "Sign In." To have your Windows Live recognize your computer and remember your password, click the "Remember me" and "Remember my password" checkboxes before you press "Sign In."
