How to Connect a Zune Device

The Zune is a portable media player that supports audio and video playback, photo viewing and Zune-to-Zune syncing. Using the USB sync cable and the official Zune software, you can connect the Zune to your computer. The Zune software is a free program included with the Zune and is available for download. Using the Zune software, you can update your Zune's firmware and transfer new files to the Zune.

1. Download the Zune software using the link in the "Resources" section of this page. Double-click the executable file to begin the installation. Click "Next" to move past the welcome screen and terms of use. Select the directory you want to install the Zune Software to. By default, it will install to the C drive. Click "Next" to install the Zune Software. Click the "Finish" button.

2. Connect the Zune to your computer using the included USB sync cable.

3. Wait for the Zune software to open. If an update is available, you will be prompted to update the Zune. If an update is applied, the Zune will restart itself. Add content to the Zune by clicking the "Settings" button. Click "Software" and click the "Collections" tab. Drag the files you want on the Zune into the folder that corresponds with the type of media you want to add (such as My Videos or My Photos). For example, If you want to add music, you'd drag the files into the "My Music" folder. The Zune software will automatically transfer the files to the Zune.
