An HVAC unit has a blower that run a majority of the heating system.

Your HVAC system runs throughout the year rather silently and with little complaint. However, it may start running too quietly and not cooling. If this is the case, the furnace blower might be faulty. The thermostat sends an electrical charge to the circuit board that controls the furnace blower motor. When the furnace is hot, the furnace blower motor turns on the fan, cooling the unit. A broken furnace blower motor will shorten the life of your unit. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Screwdriver
  • Socket wrench
  • Replacement motor

Instructions

    • 1

      Shut off power to the furnace by flipping the fuses in the furnace fuse box.

      Remove the panel from the furnace using a screwdriver to release the screws or unclipping the holding clips. Place the panel to the side.

      Remove the bolts that hold the blower in the furnace. Hold the blower up and remove the belt by hand once there is slack from moving the motor to release it. Unplug the power assembly as you pull it out.

      Remove the circuit board from the motor by removing the screws that hold it in place using a screwdriver.

      Place the circuit board on the new motor and screw it in. Lift the motor up and into the furnace and reattach the power supply and the belt. Screw the mounting bolts back into place. Turn on the power and test the unit.
