How to Use Your Delta Skymiles for Other Than Flights

Flying on Delta Airlines can earn points for other things.

Delta Skymiles are reward points linked to Delta Airlines. The free program awards miles on most Delta flights and for charges with a linked American Express credit card. Points also accrue when you dine at certain restaurants, stay at specific hotels, rent cars or shop through the Delta Skymiles website. Because many reward travel times have black-out dates, or require thousands of points, use miles for non-flight rewards, such magazine subscriptions, clothing and even charitable donations.

Instructions

1. Purchase a Delta ticket. Then, earn more miles on that flight. Use miles to join the Delta Sky Club. The club offers a comfortable, uncrowded place to wait for your flight, with free wireless Internet, a bar, newspapers and magazines. Some clubs have showers so you can freshen up during a delay or between connecting flights.

2. Read the fine print. You can use Delta Skymiles for newspaper and magazine subscriptions, including The Wall Street Journal, Time and Sports Illustrated.

3. Shop the Skymiles Marketplace. Use miles to buy clothing, sports equipment, toys and electronics such as iPods and digital cameras.

4. Place bids at the Skymiles Online Auction. You can use miles to see an NFL game or attend a Broadway show. Some auction items allow you to meet famous athletes and performers.

5. Donate miles to charity. Skymiles allows you to gift your rewards to groups such as American Cancer Society, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.
