How to Clean the Idle air Control Valve on a 93 Camry
The 1993 Camry is a mid-sized sedan designed and manufactured by Toyota. The Camry is equipped with an idle air control valve, commonly called the IAC valve. The valve controls the vehicle's idle speed, preventing the vehicle from stalling or running rough while stopped. The valve works by allowing a specific amount of air to bypass the throttle plate. This allows the vehicle to maintain the correct idle speed. It's important to keep the idle air control valve clean to ensure your Camry runs properly and efficiently.

1
Place the 1993 Camry in "park." If the vehicle was recently driven, allow it to cool for 20 minutes to ensure all components have cooled.
-
2
Open the hood of the Camry. Locate the idle air control valve. The valve is found on the throttle body and is four inches long.

3
Remove the electrical wire harness by unhooking it from the unit. You will see two bolts on the plastic part of the valve holding it in place. Remove the two bolts, using a socket wrench. The valve is now loose. Pull the valve off the mount. Some force may be required if there is excessive buildup around the valve. Be careful not to damage the component or surrounding components.

4
Use throttle-body cleaner to clean the valve. Spray the cleaner into the valve. Allow the cleaner to penetrate the carbon and dirt for one minute. Use a wire brush and clean rag to clean the valve properly.
-
5
Reinstall the idle air control valve into the Camry. Place the valve onto the mount. Replace the two bolts and tighten properly. Plug the electrical wire harness back into the valve. The valve is now cleaned and installed. Close the hood of the Camry.
