How to Make a Maternity Belly Band
Pregnant women search for stylish ways to accessorise their pregnant belly. A maternity belly band provides coverage, comfort and style. A belly band is useful for every stage of pregnancy. An open pant zipper is well hidden with a belly band. In late pregnancy, the belly band covers your entire belly while you wear non-maternity tops. The band also covers maternity panels in jeans. The layered look is easy to achieve without the bulk of multiple layers. You can make this belly band at home with a T-shirt from your closet.

1
Find a knit T-shirt that fit your body pre-pregnancy. This shirt will make a belly band that will fit your belly for several weeks into your pregnancy. As your belly gets larger, you may need to make another belly band with a T-shirt in a size larger. Choose a cotton T-shirt that is made with jersey knit, or 90-percent cotton and 10-percetn spandex.
-
2
Lay the shirt flat on a table, front side facing up. Use sharp scissors to cut the shirt horizontally, beneath the armholes. Discard the upper portion of the shirt.

3
Make the top hem. Turn the shirt band inside out. Lay the band flat on the table. Fold out a 1-inch hem and pin down. Sew the hem close to the raw edge with a zigzag stitch. The zigzag stitch provides stretch that prevents the stitches from breaking when you wear your belly band. If you have a serger, surge this hem with a stretch stitch.

Turn the finished band right side out. The factory-finished edge of the tee shirt means you do not have to sew a bottom hem. The belly band is ready to wear.
