How to Make Duck Tape Clothes
When you need to make a fashion statement, consider Duck Tape. With this versatile material, you can make colorful, no-sew, made-to-measure, one-of-a-kind garments that will set you ahead of the crowd. Start off with an easy project such as this top and you will gain the confidence to tackle more complex garments. Recruit one or, better still, two helpers to do the taping.
Things You'll Need
- T-shirt (not too loose or too tight)
- 2 rolls of Duck Tape in different colors
- Scissors
- Velcro

1
Choose your colors. Decide whether you are going for contrasting or complementary, day-wear or glamour, then choose your Duck Tape colors accordingly.
-
2
Don the T-shirt. Put on the T-shirt with the underwear you intend to wear with the Duck Tape top. Wear an old pair of jeans or leggings.
-
-
3
Start at the underarm side seam. Raise your arm so that your helpers have access to the seam. Place a strip of Duck Tape straight down the seam from under the arm to the hem. Trim the tape at the hem.
-
4
Change to the other color and, keeping level with the first strip, place the next one slightly overlapping the first. Continue alternating colors right around the T-shirt until you reach the beginning.
-
5
Fashion the yoke. Begin to lay the strips horizontally across the bust, chest and upper back, following the T-shirt seams and covering the edges of the vertical strips. Don't worry if edges of the T-shirt still show at the neck.
-
6
Cover the sleeves. Run strips of tape from the shoulder seam of the T-shirt to the sleeve hem.
-
7
Trim any visible edges of the T-shirt. Use strips to make edgings for the bottom, neck and sleeve hems, turning the tape over the edges of the T-shirt to create a smooth finish.
-
8
Cut an opening straight down the back of the garment from neck to bottom hem. Apply Velcro to each open edge to act as a closure. Your Duck Tape top is now complete.

Tips & Warnings
To make a Duck Tape dress, use a long T-shirt. Lay strips down diagonally to create a different look. For a sleeveless dress, simply trim off the T-shirt sleeves.
Create Duck Tape fabric for any project by laying down strips of tape, sticky side up on a flat surface. Overlap each strip slightly. When it is the size you need, apply cheap cotton fabric onto the sticky tape. Use as required.
