How to Recover Deleted MP3 Files

MP3s are compressed digital music. When this format appeared it made it possible for people to download music from the Internet and share audio files. While some people notice the lower audio quality, many people find it a small price to pay for the convenience of MP3s. As files on a computer these audio files can be deleted accidentally. When this happens and you have also emptied the Recycle Bin, there are recovery-software programs that locate the deleted files.

Instructions

    • 1

Find online a free digital-music-recovery or data-recovery program that can find MP3s such as DiskInternals Music Recovery, Pandora Reovery and VirtualLabs. (See links in Resources.)

    • 2

Download the program and follow the prompts to install the software.

    • 3

Open the software program. Choose the location you want the software to scan, such as hard drive or flash drive.

    • 4

Wait as the software generates a list of deleted MP3s

    • 5

Search the list for the MP3 file you want to restore. Right click on the file. Click "Restore files" from the drop-down menu. The MP3 file is now restored.
