How to Make Your Own Unity Candle Set

Customize your own unity candle set.

The unity candle ceremony during a wedding represents the joining of both partners to create their own family. Special candles just for this purpose can be overpriced and unable to be used or recycled later on. Making your own unity candle set is more cost-effective, and you will be able to customize it exactly the way you want it. You will also be able to use the candles later for home decoration if you like.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 taper candles
  • 1 pillar candle
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Photo, invitation or poem
  • Straight pins
  • Hot glue
  • Beads, stones or embellishments

Instructions

    • 1

Choose something that is personal for the front of your unity candle. For instance, a photo of you and your spouse to be, a nicely written copy of a poem you love or an invitation to your wedding.

    • 2

Cut your memento to fit your candle, either in the shape of an oval or rectangle as you desire.

    • 3

Stick straight pins into the memento and through the candle to anchor it in place.

    • 4

Embellish the candle as you like. Tie a ribbon in your wedding color around the candle, or hot glue artificial flowers or crystals to the candle. Glue beads around the memento to cover up the straight pins if necessary.

    • 5

Decorate the taper candles, as well. Tie a matching ribbon around each candle and hot glue a coordinating decoration to each one to make the set look complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Paint your candle with sponges and acrylic paint if you're feeling more creative and have more time.
