Crib Conversion Instructions thumbnail
It is a big step for a little one to graduate to a toddler bed. Make it fun!

Many cribs can be converted into toddler beds. When baby is standing up, beginning to walk in the crib, or starting to climb out of the crib it is time to convert the crib into a toddler bed. This is done for the child's safety, and because these signs signal that your little one is ready. When you convert your crib to a toddler bed the same mattress can be used if it is not damaged.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the bumper pad from the crib, if you have one. Remove all blankets and toys, and take the sheet off the mattress. Pick the mattress up out of the crib and set it aside. Replace the mattress with a new crib mattress if needed.

    • 2

Pull the crib away from the wall, if it is near one. Squeeze the handles at the top right and left sides of the slatted side rail of the crib that faces out towards the center of the room. Hold the handles in and pull up on the entire rail until the hardware of the rail slides up and out of the hardware on the crib frame. Leave the other rail on for added safety if you do not have the smaller side rails that are added onto a toddler bed. Position the bed so the side rail left on is against the wall, and the open side is out towards the center of the room, like a daybed.

Remove the other side rail if you have toddler bed safety rails that will be attached. Do this by squeezing the handles and pulling the rail up and out of the hardware. Set the rails aside then later place them in storage in case you need to make the toddler bed back into a crib in the future.

Turn the silver slide pieces along the edges of the mattress support board so they are not covering the board at all. Pull the mattress board up and out of the crib frame and set it aside. Detach both ends of the inner side support rail. Insert the hardware on each end of the rail into the lowest set of holes in the hardware on the crib. Do the same for the other side support rail. Do this so the toddler bed is as close to the floor as is possible, in case your little one rolls out of bed.

Hold one of the side rails in place on the frame of the toddler bed. Use a Phillips head screw driver to insert the screws through the holes on the safety rail into the bed frame. Attach the rail on the other side the same way.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ask your spouse or a friend to help you.

  • Your little one may roll off the bed once or twice as she is getting used to it.

  • Use safety side rails to help prevent falls.

  • Keep the frame all the way lowered to minimize the risk of injury.
