How to Troubleshoot a Water Dispenser

How to Troubleshoot a Water Dispenser thumbnail
Water dispensers are a familiar feature on many refrigerators.

A water dispenser is a common feature in many refrigerators and freezers, and consists of an outlet on the door of the refrigerator that dispenses chilled, filtered water when a button or lever is pressed. A water dispenser uses the same water supply as the ice maker in the refrigerator. When a refrigerator is new, dispense and dispose of the water several times to flush any possible dirt or debris through the lines before consuming the water. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

If the water dispenser is leaking, check the water line to the refrigerator. It must be fully inserted into the refrigerator and firmly secured.

    • 2

Make sure the water line is not kinked or blocked. If the water in the supply tank appears to be frozen, turn up the temperature setting in the freezer.

    • 3

Ensure the water pressure is between 20 and 125 psi (pound per square inch).

    • 4

If the water level seems low, press the water dispenser button or lever until water runs freely from the dispenser. The water storage tank may not be full.

    • 5

If the water is not coming out when the dispenser lever or button is pushed, press and hold the "Lock" button to unlock the water dispenser.
