Open up your Internet browser and type in the following address: http://www.typeonline.co.uk/. Click "Enter." On the left-hand side of the page is a menu list. Click on the "Typing Lessons" link. On that page, choose from 10 lessons that practice finger positioning, typing and using the number pad. In each lesson it shows you basic finger positioning with helpful tips, and after each lesson the page shows instant results.

Click the down arrow in the peach-colored box in the center of the page, and choose a lesson. Click on the chosen lesson and click "Start." Type the letters shown in the peach-colored box, and when the lesson is finished the results are shown directly below the typing area in the box. You will see how many words per minute you typed and how many mistakes you made. Click "Repeat" if you want to practice that lesson again. Using these lessons increases your speed, especially if you are a novice typist.

Click on "Copy practice" from the menu list on the left-hand side of the screen. In this lesson you will have to type various paragraphs that help increase your speed. After you finish typing the given paragraphs, click "Show mistakes." The computer shows how fast and accurately you typed the paragraph.

Click on "Speed test" from the menu list on the left-hand side of the screen. Choose the speed test you want. There are several tests, and each one is completely different. Some have words only, others have numbers only, and there are some that mix words and numbers. Click "Start the clock." Begin typing the given passage, and click "stop the clock" when you want to see your results. This practice session helps advanced typists or novices pick up their typing speed.
