Remote Recording With Windows Media Center

Windows Media Center allows you to watch and record TV programs and movies. To record a program with the Windows Media Center remote control, the computer must be on, and Windows Media Center must be open. You can record the program live or schedule a recording. Scheduled recordings can be of a specific program or a series. The remote control for Windows Media Center will turn the program on and off, as well.

Instructions

  1. Schedule a Recording

      Open Windows Media Center from the "Start" menu, or by pressing the green "Start" button on the Windows Media Center remote control.

      Press "TV," then "Guide" on the Windows Media Center remote control. As an alternative, select "Search" in the software interface and enter a title for the program you want to record to search for available listings.

      Scroll through the programs listed in the "Guide" results to find the program you wish to record. Select "Record TV" to schedule the recording.

    Record Live TV

      Click "Start" on the Windows Media Center remote control, or open Windows Media Center from the desktop's "Start" menu.

      Use the up and down navigation arrows on the remote to select "TV." Use the forward navigation arrow to highlight "Live TV."

      Scroll through the "Guide" menu options with the navigation arrows. Highlight a program and press "Play" on the remote.

      Press "Record TV" on the remote.
