Old car rubber looks better when cleaned.

Washing your car is just a part of the regular maintenance that's required when you own your own vehicle. However, not all of the parts of your car can be cleaned in the same way. For example, there is a different technique for cleaning the rubber on your car than the body or the windows. If the rubber on your car is old, you need to be especially careful while going through the cleaning process.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove surface dirt by spraying the old rubber on your car with a hose. Use a high-powered spray nozzle for better results.

    • 2

Spray or pour car wash soap directly onto a rag or car wash mitt. Use it to scrub out any remaining surface dirt or residue that you could not rinse off. Using a rag or car wash mitt, rather than a scrub brush, will help protect your old rubber from damage.

    • 3

Rinse the tire thoroughly with your high-powered spray nozzle and check to make sure all dirt and residue have been removed.

    • 4

Dry off the rubber or let it air-dry. Spray an exterior rubber trim protectant product onto a 100 percent cotton cloth and wipe a thin coating onto your car's rubber. This protectant will further the cleaning process and help to restore your old rubber to its former appearance.

    • 5

Let the rubber trim protectant sit for about 10 to 15 minutes. Use a clean, 100 percent cotton cloth to remove the excess product.
