How to Start a 2002 Nissan Sentra

      Start the engine of an automatic transmission Sentra by inserting the key into the ignition slot next to the steering wheel. Apply your foot to the brake pedal for safety, and turn the key to the "Start" mode on the ignition slot. Hold the key in position until the engine begins to run.

      Start the engine for the manual transmission Sentra by inserting the key into the ignition slot. Verify that the gearshift is in "Neutral." Do not crank the engine while in the transmission is in gear. Push the clutch pedal to the floor. The starter will not engage, unless the clutch is pressed. Turn the key to "Start" to crank the engine.
