How to Start a 2002 Nissan Sentra

The 2002 Nissan Sentra was made with automatic and manual transmissions. Starting the car when it is equipped with the automatic transmission is very simple and identical to most other vehicles. Although the same is true with the manual transmission, there are a few extra processes required to start it.

1. Start the engine of an automatic transmission Sentra by inserting the key into the ignition slot next to the steering wheel. Apply your foot to the brake pedal for safety, and turn the key to the "Start" mode on the ignition slot. Hold the key in position until the engine begins to run.

2. Start the engine for the manual transmission Sentra by inserting the key into the ignition slot. Verify that the gearshift is in "Neutral." Do not crank the engine while in the transmission is in gear. Push the clutch pedal to the floor. The starter will not engage, unless the clutch is pressed. Turn the key to "Start" to crank the engine.

3. Allow the engine to run and warm up for about 30 seconds before driving, as recommended by the owner's manual.
