How to Replace a Lost Car Title in Illinois
A car title is a legal certificate of ownership of a vehicle. It is difficult to prove ownership of a car or to sell it if this document is missing or mutilated. Fortunately, Illinois residents can obtain a copy of a car title from the Secretary of State. The department will issue the duplicate if it has been more than 15 days since the original was created or more than 30 days since the issuance of the last duplicate title.
