How to Design a Rainforest Bedroom
An actual rainforest consists of blue skies overhead, lush overgrowth of trees and plants, and a dark forest floor. Creating a bedroom design using the appropriate landscaping, plants and animals will require developing a decor that evokes a tropical and mysterious ambiance. While a child's bedroom can include tropical birds, monkeys, snakes, lizards and other forest life in a fun way, an adult bedroom can incorporate a rainforest atmosphere in a more sophisticated way. Consider who will be sleeping in the room before detailing the plan and beginning the room makeover. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Look through home design books that feature bedroom decor reminiscent of tropical rainforests. Review magazines and online websites of such rooms as well. Keep in mind that rainforests exist on several continents and all are different, but that they share a forested canopy of thick overgrowth, many beautiful plants and animals within the forest, and a dark floor. Understand the features of a rainforest before attempting to incorporate ideas into a bedroom.

2
Measure the bedroom floor space and walls. Draw the room on a sketch pad using colored pencils. Sketch ideas that include a mural or painted wall featuring a real or imaginary landscape of the rainforest. Design a mural, for example, that features lush trees, monkeys, boa constrictors and colorful lizards for a child's room. Paint a mural that features a sunrise peeking out above a canopy of dark and mysterious-looking trees in an adult bedroom.

Choose a bedspread and curtains that add color and a rainforest atmosphere. Sheer, filmy curtains that are draped across a rod and intertwined with artificial leaves or vines can work in either a child's or adult's room. Jungle animal prints or reptile prints can be found on cushions, rugs or chair throws. Use pictures of monkeys on the wall for children, or a picture of an exotic leopard for a master suite bedroom.

Ceramic or stuffed turtles, lizards and snakes can add to the decor. A bright blue snake curled around a reading lamp can work well in a teenager's room, while a snakeskin jewelry box is appropriate in an adult's rainforest bedroom. Lots of plants, a real fountain on a tabletop made of plaster or ceramic and a water vapor bowl sending small clouds of mist into a room all add to the ambiance.

5
Visit a fabric store to buy yards of faux zerbra print in polyester, faux leather and animal-print velveteen fabric to create furniture coverings, cushions and wall hangings. Buy rugs with various animal prints in washable materials to mix in with the decorative items and furnishings.

Tips & Warnings
Think in terms of creating a child's room in vertical layers that represent the rainforest. Paint the ceiling a brilliant blue to represent the sky and add a mural with lush canopy treetops at the ceiling level. Add monkeys, reptiles, turtle, and snakes in the middle of the mural from knee height to two feet from the ceiling.
Keep the floor as a dark and mysterious level, reminiscent of the forest floor where unusual plants and flowers grow. Paint the floor black, for example, but add bright rugs for some pizazz.
