How to Block a Phone Number With Vonage

Vonage is a VoIP (voice over IP) telephone service in the U.S. and Canada. Like many VoIP services, Vonage's services are not compatible with typical landline telephone features, such as auto-blocking and unblocking telephone numbers; however, the company does offer easy-to-use privacy features that you can control online or directly from your handset. Vonage offers most of these privacy features free to every telephone customer, and you can use them to prohibit unwanted calls from one person or to temporarily stop all incoming calls at any time.

Instructions

Block a Specific Phone Number

1. Locate the telephone number you wish to block by viewing your incoming call list on your caller ID screen. Try to locate the owner and/or address attached to the telephone number as well, if possible.

2. Contact Vonage's customer support hotline toll-free at [phone] and ask to speak with a representative in the Troubleshooting Department. Provide your name, Vonage telephone number and address when prompted.

3. Provide the support representative with the telephone number, including area code, that you wish to block. If you know the owner's name and/or address, provide this as well and request a block on all telephone numbers attached to the owner or address.

4. Pay a $15 fee for each telephone number you wish to block by credit card or have the fee added to your next phone bill. The fee covers the number block for the duration of your telephone number, so you will only need to pay it once. Wait up to 48 hours after instituting the number block for the block to take effect.

Block Anonymous Phone Numbers

1. Log in to your Vonage online account. If you do not already have an online account, visit the Vonage website to set up a new account or contact Vonage's customer support hotline toll-free at [phone] for more help.

2. Locate and click on the "Feature" tab from the top menu of your account control panel. Locate and click the option for "Privacy Features."

3. Scroll down until you locate "Blocking Certain Telephone Numbers" on the next page. Locate and click the option to "Block Incoming Anonymous Calls." Check the box marked "Yes" on the next screen, then click "Update Account." You will no longer receive telephone calls from anonymous phone numbers.

4. Log in to your account and return to the "Block Incoming Anonymous Calls" screen at any time to deactivate the feature. Check the box marked "No" and click "Update Account," then wait up to 30 minutes to begin receiving anonymous telephone calls once more.

Block All Phone Numbers

1. Turn on your telephone and listen for the dial tone.

2. Press *78 and listen for three consecutive beeps, and the dial tone should return. If you do not hear three beeps and/or the dial tone, hang up and try again. Turn your phone off again when you are finished, and the Do Not Disturb feature will activate.

3. Turn your telephone on and dial *79 at any time after activating the Do Not Disturb function to deactivate the feature. Listen again for the three consecutive beeps to ensure you turned the feature off correctly. You will not receive any incoming telephone calls from any phone number until you turn off the feature.

4. Dial *78 on your Vonage phone and you will have activated the Do Not Disturb feature. You will receive no incoming calls to your Vonage number until you dial *79 to return your phone to active status.
