How to Start a Service Business Quick and Easy
Starting a service business is a good way to employ yourself and get out in your community. Depending on your skills and areas of expertise, you may find yourself with a good opportunity for part- or full-time income. A service business is ideal because it fills a need and can often be expanded as your business grows.

1
Make a list of your skills, hobbies and interests. Don't leave anything out. A love of baking could lead to a cake or cookie decorating business. If you like animals, you could pet sit or be a groomer. Those who are handy with tools can offer their services to repair appliances or be a general handyman.

Go through your list of ideas and choose one or two that you can imagine doing as a job. Do some research on your ideas and find out what you need to start a business from that idea. You will need specific items for certain businesses. If you're going to be a handyman, for example, you will need certain tools.

3
Put together the items or tools you need to perform your service. Rent expensive items if you can to save money, or buy them as needed. If you are offering cake decorating services, for example, you don't need to buy every pan and decorating tip right away. Instead, buy them as you need them for each individual job.
-
4
Design and print out promotional flyers for your new business. You will need to come up with a business name or logo to put on your flyers and any other promotional materials you come up with. You can create brochures, business cards and a website for your business.
-
5
Buy a separate cell phone for your business or have a separate business line installed in your home. Designate a small area in your home -- even the corner of a room will work -- as your office where you can keep paperwork, a desk and a computer, if needed.
-
6
Advertise your service in your newspaper classified ads or on a classified ad website.
-
7
Continue to promote your business by talking to people about it, using social media and attending local events. Hand out flyers and business cards to anyone who might be able to use your services. Introduce yourself to your neighbors by going door to door and letting them know what services you offer.
