If you've switched to a Mac computer, you may also want to transfer your Family Tree Maker text files and other information over to Reunion, a genealogy tracking software made specifically for Macs. Transferring your text will require using a GEDCOM file, which saves you time by moving all of your genealogy information over from Family Tree Maker into Reunion. Does this Spark an idea?

      Open Family Tree Maker and open the text file you wish to transfer. Click "File," select "Export File," then click "Entire File."

      Check next to "GEDCOM" in the dropdown menu, then click the "Desktop" icon on the left. Click "Save," then change the "Destination" to "FTW," the "GEDCOM" field to your current version, and the "Character Set" to "Macintosh." Click "OK."

      Locate this file (with a .GED extension) on your desktop. Insert a flash drive into a USB port on your computer, double-click the icon to open it, and drag the .GED file into the flash drive window. Right-click the flash drive icon and select "Remove."

      Plug the flash drive into your Mac with Reunion installed, open the flash drive folder, and open your Applications folder. Drag and drop the GED file on top of the Reunion icon in the Applications file to transfer the file.
