Things You'll Need

  • Telnet access password for the Cisco ASA 5505
  • Privileged Exec mode password for the Cisco ASA 5505
  • Cisco ASA 5505 with telnet access enabled
  • IP address of the inside interface on the Cisco ASA 5505
  • Microsoft Windows 7 computer with Microsoft telnet client software installed

Instructions

      Click the "Globe" start button on the Windows 7 computer, and then click "Programs," and then click "Accessories."

      Right-click the command line icon and click "Run as Administrator."

      Type "telnet 10.0.0.1," but replace "10.0.0.1" with the IP address of the Cisco ASA 5505. Touch the "Enter" key. Type "telnet 10.0.0.1," but replace "10.0.0.1" with the IP address of the Cisco ASA 5505. Touch the "Enter" key and the telnet application will connect to the ASA appliance.

      Type the telnet access password for the ASA 5505 when requested at the command prompt and tap the "Enter" key.

      Type "enable" on the command line, and then press the "Enter" key.

      Type the Privileged Exec password for the ASA 5505 when requested at the command prompt and tap the "Enter" key.

      Type "configure terminal" on the command line and press the "Enter" key.

      Type "interface ethernet0/7" at the command prompt and press the "Enter" key.

      Enter "shutdown" on the command line and press the "Enter" key.

      Type "end" and press the "Enter" key. Then type "copy run start" and press the "Enter" key to save the new configuration.
