How to Recycle Automobile Tires
You might not realize that certain common items that you use every day are recyclable. For example, recycle automobile tires. Recycling automobile tires, rather than allowing them to sit in a landfill, helps protect the Earth's natural resources, as well as conserve energy. Taking just a little time and effort to recycle your old tires can help make a positive impact on the planet and this is a decision that you can feel good about.

Reuse the automobile tires yourself. There are several ways that you can recycle the old tires yourself. For example, you can place tires within your garden, fill them with dirt and plant a potato garden inside of them. Continue to stack tires on top of the first tire as your potato plants begin to grow. Other ways to recycle tires yourself include using them as boat bumpers or making an old fashioned tire swing for your kids to enjoy.

Contact your local government office to find out which department handles building new roads in your community if you don't want to reuse the tires yourself. This is usually the Department of Public Works. Part of the process of building roads often involves using ground up automobile tires, which you can donate and they will recycle.

Contact your local Department of Parks and Recreation if you would rather donate the tires for use in public parks. Automobile tires can be recycled into playground mats in parks and sometimes a material that replaces wood chips. Again, you can donate your automobile tires to the department and they will recycle them.
