How to Care for a Soft Relined Denture
Relining is a procedure in which a dentist adds a layer of soft plastic to the interior of your dentures. Soft relines are used when a patient is experiencing pain or soreness from ill-fitting dentures, or to adjust the fit if a patient's bone shape is changing. Soft relines are intended to last temporarily, anywhere from several weeks to several months. Since the plastic used is soft and malleable, the denture requires special care.
Instructions

1
Keep the soft relined dentures in place during the first day you receive them, or for as long as your dentist recommends. During the first day the soft plastic will mold to your gum line, therefore you should not disturb it.
-
2
Remove the dentures at least once per day after the first day, or as recommended by your dentist. Remove the dentures for cleaning, and at night to give your gums a rest.

3
Brush the teeth of the dentures using toothpaste and a soft toothbrush. Be careful to avoid brushing the soft lining. Ask your dentist if you can brush the soft lining gently after you have worn the dentures for several days.
-
4
Rinse the dentures using warm, clean water. If you are leaving the dentures out overnight, place them in a glass or container and cover them with warm water. In the morning, rinse the dentures under running water before inserting them into your mouth.

5
Do not use denture soaks or cleaners unless instructed by your dentist. The cleaner may be too harsh for the soft plastic. Your dentist may also recommend avoiding denture adhesives for the same reasons.

Tips & Warnings
Discuss the care of your particular soft reline dentures with your dentist. Your dentist will recommend cleaners and techniques suited to your specific needs.
Your dentist may suggest eating soft, easy-to-chew foods for the first few days that you wear your soft relined dentures. Eating soft foods will be more comfortable until you get used to the new denture lining.
