How to Clean bumGenius Diapers
Cloth diapers are a less expensive and more environmentally friendly option than disposable diapers. But parents often avoid them, assuming that they require tedious and constant clean-up. Advances in technology allow for new methods of cloth diaper cleaning that save parents time. For bumGenius diapers, there are tools that make changing time a breeze.
Instructions

1
Install the bumGenius diaper sprayer according to the manufacturer's instructions. It can be installed at a bathroom toilet or a sink faucet.
-
2
Spray each diaper to remove soiling, and flush or drain the waste.
-
-
3
Separate bumGenius diapers from other laundry. For those that have loop and hook enclosures, secure laundry tabs to avoid damage.
-
4
Prewash the diapers in a bath of cold water to remove waste particles and loosen stains. If time allows, the prewash can take place overnight, or just soak them for 10 to 15 minutes before the wash.
-
5
Add a scoop of bumGenius detergent to hot water, at about 40 degrees Celsius or 100 degrees Fahrenheit. In hard water areas, use a scoop plus 1 tbsp. of the detergent. Alternative detergents can be used as long as they are free of fragrances, dyes or fabric enhancers; these additives can cause diaper rash and leakage. If you use a detergent not specified for use on cloth diapers, pour only half the suggested amount into the wash water.
-
6
Wash the diapers for one cycle only, and then follow up with a final rinse of cold water. If the smell of dirty diapers lingers, don't add fabric softeners, stain removers or odor killers including baking soda and vinegar. These harsh ingredients can ruin the material of bumGenius diapers. To remove the smell, wash the diapers again on the hot cycle.
-
7
Allow the diaper covers and shells to air dry. For the fitteds, prefolds and inserts, tumble dry on low to warm heat. Laying clean diapers in the sun to dry can also help with stain removal.
