How to Recover an Overwritten Document
If you've overwritten a Microsoft Word .DOC file, this means that you've accidentally saved over your ideal version of the file with a version that contains changes you were unhappy with. In the event that this happens, you won't have to try and recreate the original document from memory. You can use the Microsoft Windows "Previous Versions" native feature to recover the overwritten .DOC file version in a few seconds.

Right-click on the current version of your .DOC file.

What a life-saving tip! Just a quick clarification for anyone else who might try the stupid way first like I did-- this procedure is for when you're looking at the list of files in the Explorer Window. You right-click on the file entry, not somewhere within the file when it's opened in Word. Also, I found that once the older (shadow version) had been opened, using the normal "Save" procedure did not restore that shadow version to the current version. Although the opened shadow version indicates it has the same file name, I still had to use use the "Save As" procedure and tell it to overwrite that file name to get it to replace the unwanted new incorrect save. Then it was properly saved with the (previously) shadow version as the current version.
