How to Remove Unwanted Hair Bumps thumbnail
Don't leave your razors out like this.

Unwanted bumps occur frequently after shaving and are caused mainly by two things - irritation and ingrown hairs. Shaving without lubrication is a common cause for irritation. The razor ends up tugging on the hair follicle because it can't glide easily. Ingrown hairs are usually caused by a lack of care after shaving. However, bumps can be stopped with just a few simple changes to your shaving routine. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

With the soap, wash the area you want to shave. This decreases the chance of infections from any cuts or an infected hair follicle.

    • 2

Smooth on shaving cream. Do not rinse it off.

    • 3

Use the razor to shave sections of hair. The less you drag the razor over one spot, the less irritating it will be to your skin. This is also the advantage of a razor with multiple blades, you will get a closer shave with fewer times pulling each area. More advanced razors also have conditioning strips that help to make sure your skin is always lubricated.

    • 4

Reapply the shaving cream as needed. Always have some on the area you're shaving.

    • 5

When you are done, rinse off any excess hair or shaving cream and pat the area dry with a towel. Make sure to rinse, dry and cap your razor so it doesn't become a breeding ground for bacteria.

    • 6

Apply aloe vera gel to the newly shaved area. Aloe vera coats the new growth of hair, making it thick enough that new skin cells will not grow over it. This prevents in-grown hairs which present as bumps.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the area is very irritated, you may reapply the aloe as needed.
