Share an Internet connection with an Ethernet cable.

If you have two computers and do not have access to a router, then you can share your Internet connection from a USB device to another computer using an Ethernet cable. This is handy if you need to share the connection with a friend. Since you cannot plug the USB device into both computers, this is one way to accomplish this goal. Another available option is to purchase the specialized routers that have a USB slot for the device.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the computers with an Ethernet cord.

    • 2

Click the "Start" menu, "Control Panel" then "Network and Internet" on the computer hooked up to the USB modem.

    • 3

Select "Network and Sharing Center," then "Manage network connections."

    • 4

Right-click on the USB modem and choose "Properties."

    • 5

Click "Sharing" and check the box next to "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection."
