How to Convert a TMP Video File to WMV

Create WMV files from TMP files.

TMP files are temporary files saved from a variety of programs. They store large amounts of data, just like video editing software. TMP files are created when the parent program has crashed while running. Converting your TMP file to WMV might be useful because TMP files will not work in any regular video player. Opening the TMP file in another program (like Windows Movie Maker) and saving it as a WMV file will let you be able to watch it on Windows Media Player.

Instructions

1. Click "Start," "All Programs" and open "Windows Movie Maker." After the program loads select "File," "Open Project" and select the TMP file that you wanted to convert to WMV.

2. Click "File" and select "Publish Movie" (instead of "Save Project," as this will save it as a Windows Movie Maker file, which can only be opened in that program). An export window appears on the screen.

3. Type in a name that you wish to call the file, select a location to save the file. Click "Publish" and the file will be saved to your computer. Publishing the file through Windows Movie Maker will always save your video files as WMV files.

4. Click "Start," select "All Programs" and open "Windows Media Player." After the program loads click "File," "Open" and click on the video that you just saved. Click the "Play" button and the video file will begin to play on the screen.

Tips & Warnings

• If you would like to convert the newly saved video to any other format, just use any of the programs in the Resources.
