How to Do Mouseovers in Powerpoint
Microsoft PowerPoint is a presentation program typically used to create and show illustrated slides that complement the points in a presenter's speech. The effects available while creating slides in PowerPoint do not allow you to do mouseover animations, but you can trigger actions such as jumping to a new slide, playing a sound or highlighting the mouseover object. In this way you can make the presentation more interactive than a simple slideshow.

Launch the PowerPoint program and create a new, blank presentation.

Click the "Insert" menu and choose "New Slide" to create a second slide.

Click on the "Rectangle" tool and draw a rectangle on the first slide.

Right-click on the rectangle on the first slide and choose "Action Settings." Click on the "Mouse Over" tab.

Click on the radio button to select "Hyperlink to:" from the mouseover options. Choose "Next Slide" from the drop-down menu to make the rectangle direct the user to the second slide on mouseover. Check the "Play Sound" button, and then select a sound from the drop-down box to play a sound on mouseover. Check the "Highlight when mouse over" box to highlight the rectangle on mouseover. Click the "OK" button.

Press the "F5" key on the keyboard to preview the current slideshow. Move the mouse cursor over the rectangle to change to the second slide and play a sound or highlight the rectangle as per the options selected in the "Action Settings" window for the rectangle.

Tips & Warnings
The mouseover effect can also be applied to images by clicking the "Insert" menu, then clicking on "Picture" and inserting an image. Apply the mouseover action by right-clicking and selecting "Action Settings" in the same method used above.
