How to Assign an IP Address to a Jet Direct Box
Jet Direct boxes allow you to connect your printer directly to your network instead of to a computer. This gives you the ability to print documents from a network printer without accessing the printer from a connected computer, providing greater printer-sharing flexibility to offices that share a printer. By accessing the Jet Direct printer settings using Microsoft's telnet connection protocol, you can assign a static IP address to your Jet Direct box so that the IP address never changes.

1
Click "Start" and type "cmd" into the search bar. Press "Enter." The Windows Command Prompt will appear.

2
Input "telnet 192.0.0.192" into the Command Prompt and press "Enter." Note that 192.0.0.192 is the default Jet Direct IP address. If you have changed your Jet Direct IP address in the past, this number will be different.

Tips & Warnings
While in the telnet you can change other options on your Jet Direct box, such as the subnet mask ("subnet-mask"), default gateway ("default-gw") or syslog server ("syslog-server"). Do this by entering the parameter command followed by a colon, space and then the new IP address.
