How to Wire a Klipsch THX

How to Wire a Klipsch THX thumbnail
Klipsch THX speakers are derived from their commercial theater offerings.

Klipsch is the oldest American speaker company still in existence. Identified by their signature square compression horn tweeter, most Klipsch speakers operate at an efficiency that is significantly higher than most competing brands. This means that higher volume levels are achievable with a lower level of distortion, with less power, using a Klipsch product. The Klipsch THX product involves flat black rectangular speakers, optimized for home theater use. Designed to mimic their commercial theater offerings, Klipsch THX speakers do not have unusual wiring protocols.

Instructions

    • 1

Rotate the binding posts counterclockwise on the Klipsch speakers, exposing their wire holes.

    • 2

Cut the speaker wire sufficient to reach from the system amplifier to the individual speakers. Strip 1/2 inch from both ends.

    • 3

Rotate the binding posts counterclockwise on the amplifier to expose the terminal holes. Insert the wires on the speakers and amplifier and rotate the posts back down on all speakers and amp to complete the connections.

    • 4

Locate the "SUB" RCA or XLR (if equipped) output on the rear of the preamplifier. Route the chosen subwoofer cable to the Klipsch subwoofer amplifier's "LFE" input. Note the orientation of the pins on the XLR cable if chosen. Press in until a "click" is heard and felt.

    • 5

Cut a length of speaker wire sufficient to reach form the subwoofer amplifier to the subwoofer. Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from each end of the wire.

    • 6

Unscrew the binding posts on the amplifier and subwoofer enclosure. Insert the wire into the post hole terminals on both devices, then tighten them back down clockwise to complete the termination.
