How to Drain a Radiator on a 1999 Chevy Malibu
It's important to keep the radiator and cooling system clean on your 1999 Chevy Malibu. One of the ways to do this is by periodically draining the radiator. This will empty out all the fluid from the system which, over time, can lose cooling effectiveness, as well as become thick with rust deposits and other engine debris. The radiator in your 1999 Chevy Malibu is drained through a drain plug at the bottom of your radiator.

1
Relocate your 1999 Chevy Malibu to a spot that gives you plenty of area in which to work. The driveway is a good choice for this. Put the Malibu in park and set the parking brake. Turn off the engine, and pull the keys out of the ignition.
-
2
Pop open the hood. Prop this into the open position with the hood rod. Allow the engine approximately 30 minutes to cool.
-
-
3
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery terminal.
-
4
Remove the radiator cap by turning it counterclockwise. Press down as you turn until the cap screws off.
-
5
Position yourself underneath the radiator at the front of the 1999 Chevy Malibu. Locate the radiator drain plug, which will be either a plastic or brass plug sticking out of the bottom rear of the radiator. Slide the drain pan underneath the plug.
-
6
Loosen the plug with the pliers. Allow the radiator fluid inside to drain out.
-
7
Close the plug when the radiator is empty.
