How to Find a Compaq Evo Model by Serial Number

Knowing the model number of your Compaq Evo computer is important, as it is needed when downloading driver updates, ordering replacement parts and performing troubleshooting steps. The model number is used by Compaq to identify the series of computers and the components used in those computers. There may be thousands of computers with the same model number, however each of those computers is issued a personalized serial number. No two computers bear the same serial number, as the serial number is used to identify the specific computer, look up warranty and repair history and identify the model number of the computer.

Instructions

If Computer Is Present

1. Look on the sticker on the Compaq Evo computer that contains the serial number. The sticker will be located on the rear, side or bottom of the computer. On the sticker, the model number and product number will be listed above the serial number.

2. Press and hold both the "Ctrl" and "Alt" keys, then press the "s" key to display the system information on the screen. Release all three keys once pressed. The model number will be listed beside "Model."

3. Visit the HP support website (see Resources) using Internet Explorer 6 or later to use the HP Auto-Detection assistant to determine your model number. Click "Support and Drivers," then click "Start Detection" to have the HP Auto-Detection assistant determine your Compaq Evo's model number.

If Computer Is Not Present

1. Call Compaq's customer service telephone number at 800-474-6836.

2. Press the "0" (zero) button three times to be connected with a customer service representative.

3. Provide the customer service representative with your first and last name, telephone number, email address and Compaq Evo serial number. With this information, the customer service representative will be able to look up and provide you with the model and product numbers of your computer.
