How to Sew Snowboard Pants
Snowboard pants made from nylon fabric and insulated lining can be repaired at home if they get a small tear or have a loose seam. Nylon fabric frays easily, so you need to strengthen the fabric's raw edges. Flatten the insulated lining between the outer shell and inner shell lining by pressing it in place with your fingertips. The shells are the fabric layers protecting the puffy insulation. You will need a heavy duty sewing machine with either a walking foot or a roller foot to sew neatly over the fabric and insulation layers. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure and cut off four or five strips of 3 inch long nylon ripstop tape and stick them to the edge of a table or counter. It is easier to keep wrinkles out of short strips of ripstop tape when you are applying it.
-
2
Line up the ripstop tape along the raw edge of the snowboard pants fabric. Apply tape along both the outer shell's raw edge and the inner shell's raw edge. Put the tape on the back, or wrong side of the fabric so it will not show after the snowboard pants are sewn. If the fabric is frayed, place the tape inside the damaged area and trim off the frayed threads using the scissors.

3
Line up the taped edges of the snowboard pants, and hold them together as you place them under the sewing machine's presser foot. Hold the fabric edges together as you slowly sew along the edges with the sewing machine set to make a straight stitch.

4
Finish the seam by sewing along the edge a second time, using a zigzag, over-lock, or blanket stitch.

Tips & Warnings
If you have a hard time finding ripstop nylon tape, you can substitute fray preventing drops from a sewing supply store. To use fray preventing drops, place a single drop directly on the raw edge. Place drops one inch apart the length of the opening.
