ATI Radeon Drivers Won't Install

ATI Radeon video cards are among some of the most-used video cards in the world. You must install ATI display drivers, also known as Catalyst drivers, onto your computer in order to activate the full graphical capabilities of your ATI Radeon video card. If you cannot install the ATI Radeon drivers onto your computer, the problem might reside with the display driver itself.

Instructions

    • 1

Uninstall any previously installed ATI display drivers from your computer. Older display drivers can conflict when installing newer display drivers, which can cause errors during the installation process. You can uninstall ATI display drivers from your Windows Control Panel. Also, ensure that you restart your computer before re-installing the ATI drivers.

    • 2

Download a new ATI Catalyst display driver from the ATI website (see Resource section). The older display driver can be corrupted or missing certain files that must be present for successful driver installation.

    • 3

Ensure that the display driver is made for the operating system that you are about to install it for. For example, you cannot install an ATI display driver that is made for Windows Vista onto Windows 7 and vice versa, nor can you install a 32-bit version of the display driver onto a 64-bit operating system and vice versa. The name on the ATI display driver setup will give you an indication of what operating system the display driver is made for. If the driver does not match your operating system, download a newer driver that does support your operating system from the ATI website (see Resource section).
