1
Choose your fabrics first, including fabric for bedding, curtains or tablecloths. Choose a main fabric that includes red as well as other colors, giving you a color palette with which to work. Look for small print patterns, such as checks or small flowers to go along with the country theme.
-
2
Select coordinating fabrics, such as solids, stripes or other prints that go with the main fabric selection. Stay away from bold prints or wide strips as these may detract from the country appearance.

3
Collect paint chips from the paint or hardware store. Choose from a wide variety of red shades as you may find that one you did not really like in the store is a perfect match to some of the reds in your fabrics.
-
4
Lay out all your fabrics. Choose the paint color that works best with all of your chosen fabrics. Choose a coordinating paint color, such as cream or green for adding the country look to your trim.
-
5
Paint the room in your chosen red color. Remove all of the furniture, and put painter's tape around all the trim. Prime the walls with a dark-tinted primer to minimize the number of coats of the red paint.
-
6
Buy new or used furniture that fits in with your country decor. Use dark woods especially to go with the reds in your country decorating.
-
7
Add accessories to your room, such as a vase of wildflowers, Americana pictures or any other accessories that have a shade of red that goes with your paint or fabrics. Tie a red-checked ribbon around a vase to add to the country feel.

Tips & Warnings
It is much easier to choose the fabric before choosing any red paints. If you choose the paint first, you limit your options as to fabric choices, but if you choose the fabrics first, you give yourself more choices in the form of shades of red that are in the fabric.
Look for furniture at thrift stores and flea markets. You can either use the furniture in a distressed country look or refinish it in a dark stain for another style of country look.
