Program a Kenwood Two-Way Radio

Kenwood is a Japanese manufacturer of audio and portable radio equipment, based in Tokyo. The company make a range of two-way radios for use by amateurs at home or in a work environment covering a large area. A Kenwood two-way radio can be programmed to default to a particular frequency within a channel or to search for channels for a signal. This is useful for quickly finding the right frequency on your Kenwood radio in order for it to work with other handsets. You only need approximately 5 minutes for this task.

Instructions

  1. Set Default Channel Frequency

    • 1

      Turn the radio off and hold down the "Menu" key. Turn on the radio and release the "Menu" key after approximately 1 second.

      Use the arrow keys to select a channel.

      Press the "Menu" button again.

    • 4

      Use the arrow keys to select a frequency within the channel selected in Step 2.

    • 5

      Press "Menu" and repeat steps 2 through 4 for each channel you want to program. Press "PTT," "Mon" or "Cal" to exit.

    Scanning for Channels

    • 6

      Turn the radio off and hold down the "Menu" key. Turn on the radio and release the "Menu" key after approximately 1 second.

      Press either the up or down arrow until "Sc" flashes on the screen.

    • 8

      Press "Menu." Press either the up or down arrow until "Sc-on" flashes on the screen.

    • 9

      Press "Menu" then "PTT," "Mon" or "Cal" to exit.

    • 10

      Press and hold the up arrow until "Scan" appears on the screen. The Kenwood radio will scan and connect to compatible frequencies in range of the radio.
