Set macros to automate your common keyboard tasks.

The Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 6000 allows users to control a computer without being tethered by wires to the computer tower itself. The keyboard includes a full standard QWERTY layout as well as a series of macro buttons that can be programmed with the user's choice of program commands, typing or access shortcuts. Programming these keys requires downloading configuration software for the keyboard from Microsoft's website.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the Microsoft mouse and keyboards download page (see Resources). Set the first box to "Keyboard," the second to "Wireless Keyboard 6000," the third to your computer's operating system and the fourth to "English" or your language of choice. Click "Go" and choose "Save to Disc" when prompted to accept the download.

    • 2

Double-click the downloaded file to install the IntelliType controls. Open the Start menu and choose "Control Panel." Double-click "Keyboard" to open the settings for your keyboard.

    • 3

Open the "Key Settings" tab and select the key you wish to set. Click "Configure" to navigate to the program you wish to assign to the key or "Assign/Manage Macro" to program a series of keystrokes to be performed whenever you hit the key.

    • 4

Click "OK" to save your changes, then "Apply" to have your command or macro assigned to your keyboard. Assign commands or macros to all the keys you wish to program, then close the "Control Panel" window.
