OGMRip for Ubuntu can be used to convert DVDs to MP4.

Although Ubuntu does not support ripping DVDs to digital video formats by default due to the closed-source nature of the DVD format, there are DVD conversion applications available in the Ubuntu software repositories. You can install a DVD conversion tool with just a few clicks from the default software repositories included with Ubuntu. Once you have installed a DVD ripping program, you can convert your DVDs to the MP4 file format or any other supported format. Amongst the available DVD ripping tools available in the Ubuntu software repository, OGMRip is one of the easiest to use.
