How to Install an Exterior Door Knob
Installing a new door knob on an exterior door is a simple project. There is only one difference in the installation of exterior door knobs from that of interior door knobs. This difference is the screws holding the latch in place. The screws are an added safety feature to make it more difficult to remove the door knob. When installing an exterior door knob, always make sure that the keyhole is facing out and the screws are facing in. Does this Spark an idea?

Insert the latch piece into the small hole on the edge of the door. The latch should be positioned so that the curved side is facing the interior of the house.

Insert two screws in the holes on the front of the latch piece. There is one hole above the latch and one below it. Tighten these screws with a screwdriver to hold the latch in place.

Put the doorknob with the keyhole through the door from the outside. Slide the opposite knob through from the inside so that the two knobs are tightly together and flush with the door.

Insert two screws through the holes on the interior side of the door knob. Tighten these screws with a screwdriver.

Place the strike plate on the doorjamb. Position it so that the latch fits into it when the door is closed. Screw the plate to the doorjamb with two screws.
