1
Dig a hole that is at least 6 inches across with a pair of post hole diggers. Dig the hole so that one-third of the post's overall length is below ground level. For example, if the metal post is 9 feet long, the hole should be 3 feet deep. Add 4 inches to the depth for gravel.

2
Place 4 inches of gravel in the bottom of the hole. Tamp the gravel flat with the handle of a shovel.

3
Place the metal chain link fence post in the hole so it is centered from side to side. Pour 6 inches of gravel around the post and use a level on two sides to ensure it is straight. Tamp the rock in place with the shovel handle to hold the post straight.

4
Pour quick-set concrete into the hole around the fence post. Fill the hole with the concrete to within 4 to 6 inches of ground level. Add water to the concrete following the manufacturer's directions. Typically, this will be enough to wet the concrete mix without making it too thin.
-
5
Leave the metal chain link post undisturbed to set and cure for several hours. Shovel dirt that was removed from the hole around the metal post and tamp it in place to level it with the surrounding ground.
